Exclusive Ancient Art Auction
On Sunday, November 13, 2016, 20.00 CET the second Exclusive Ancient Art Auction will take place at Catawiki. 63 exclusive pieces of art from the Mediterranean world and Egypt will be for sale. Estimates start at 700 Euros.
Exclusive Ancient Art Auction is a cooperation between IADAA members in the tradition of the famous Basel Ancient Art Fair BAAF. It is privately organized, nevertheless, only members of IADAA have the possibility to offer objects via this auction. This means that every bidder enjoys the full range of advantages provided by IADAA: All members of IADAA guarantee the authenticity of the objects offered by the best of their professional knowledge. And they have established to the best of their ability that the objects were not stolen from excavations, architectural monuments, public institutions or private property. Therefore, buying an object at the Exclusive Ancient Art Auction is as safe as buying it in the gallery of an IADAA member.

No. 63. Ancient Egyptian Shabti for the Governor of Upper Egypt, Ankh-Hor. 10 cm. Egypt 26th Dynasty, 640-570 B.C. Estimate: 5,500-7,250 Euro.

No. 36. Athenian black figure Eye-Cup. 27,5 cm including handles. Greek, Athenian – c. 500 B.C. Estimate: 7,500-9,800 Euro.
Sizable eye-cup, on both sides of the kylix a horse and rider, in the middle of a pair of eyes. Left and right a naked youth. Under the handles a water bird. Material: Terracotta, Size: width 27,5 cm. Condition: Broken and reassembled. Three very small losses replaced. Losses of the surface in the centre filled. Very carefully restored fractures. Provenance: Private collection B., Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, since the 1980s. Estimate: 7,500-9,800 Euro.
No. 20. Greek fragment of a terracotta votive plaquette; two winged horses. 20 x 13 cm. Greek, South Italy, 490-460 B.C. Estimate: 2,000-2,600 Euro.
Fragment of a votive plaquette (pinax) portraying the kidnapping of Persephone. The beautiful worked wings and the rear ends of two horses pulling the biga of which the tiller arm is just visible, below a fallen wool basket, with 2 perforations for suspension. Below the tails some remains of the original blue paint. See picture for the drawing of a complete scene. Terracotta, Size: 20 x 13 cm. Condition: recomposed from 3 fragments, with mount. Provenance: ex collection A, Belgium, collected in the 1960-1970s. Estimate: 2,000-2,600 Euro.
